Helpful Hints.

Chrome side trim installation:
New "plastichrome" side trim is purchased in rolls.

1. Purchase only good quality replacement trim, which is easier to install.

2. Heat the trim with a heater, dryer or hot water until it becomes slightly pliable - do not overheat or the trim will lose its elasticity and be more prone to detach from the body.

3. Ensure the trim is installed so that the natural curve of the trim (the way it was rolled up) follows the sharp bends on the inside of the front/rear wheel arches, not following the contours of the wheelarches themselves.

4. Depending on the year of your car, the trim is held on by self tapping screws or pop rivets. Replace these with new stainless steel items to prevent rust.

5. Work slowly and patiently.

Distributor Clips
PROBLEM: Do your Distributor retaining clips fall out when opened?

There is a simple remedy for this problem, just put a dab of silicon sealant on each pivot point of the retainers. This still allows movement of the clips, and at the same time, keeps them from falling out.

Brake Fluid Tip
PROBLEM: Have you ever spilled brake fluid while trying to top up your brake or clutch Master Cylinder ?

This "easy to build" filler bottle might be just what you have been looking for.

Take one small plastic bottle with screw cap (we used a hair shampoo bottle) and approximatly 18" of plastic or rubber tubing. Drill a hole in the cap big enough for tubing for tubing, but it MUST be a snug fit. Install tubing in to the cap extending to the bottom of the bottle. Fill the bottle with brake fluid.

When you want to top up your master cylinders, simply hold the tubing over the reservoir opening and sqeeze the bottle, forcing fluid up through the tubing into the master cylinder.

Doors are sagging:
Grasp the door and shake it up and down. If the hinges are loose, new pins and bushes can be fitted. Tap the old ones out using a drift and fit a new set - widely available from any Mini specialist.

If the hinges do not flex but the door moves up and down, the door skin and/or A-panels may be rusty or the hinge mounting holes enlarged.
