Volume 1 Number 8 October 1999.

The Club Captian report.
It has been eight months since the Mini Owners Club started and it just keeps on getting stronger by the day. The day runs and other club events are always well represented even though the numbers may not be as huge but there is always someone new who had a chance to be with the group outings.

CARNIVAL of FLOWERS …. TOOWOOMBA.
The Toowoomba Day Run to the Carnival of Flowers attracted ten Minis on the Saturday after the Mini 40 weekend. I really didn’t expect this many as a lot of members exhausted themselves the weekend before. However, the trip to Toowoomba was good, arriving about 10.30am. we were meet by the local Queensland Mini Club Captain, Adrian Meston, Danial Hicks and twenty seven local Minis, which made up a good group for the parade. Unfortunately we were not placed at the head of the parade as there was some timing problems getting all the cars there in time. We were placed at the end, which gave some cars heating concerns, but all finished in good spirits at Queens Park. I must say, the thousands of people who turned out for the annual event, could not believe there was that many Minis still left in Queensland. I even noticed Premier Peter Beattie was surprised to see so many Minis in such good condition. Many thanks to Adrian and his members of the QMCC of Toowoomba for inviting us up for the event. Thanks also to John Major who was in Brisbane from Adelaide on a work trip and decided to take his Cooper S for a run.

NOOSA CAR CLASSIC.
Our trip to Noosa for the Car Classic on Sunday 10th October again attracted ten Minis from Brisbane, Nambour and Noel & Sandra Soppa from Bundaberg. Interesting for everyone to know is that most of the Minis on this run had not been to any of our previous runs. While numbers might have been down, members are selecting their events from the busy calendar that we have, which gives us a different lot cars each month. Unfortunately my Cooper S had slight clutch problems and I went as a passenger with Andrew Wright in his MK2 S, which was quite enjoyable for a change. Thanks again Andrew, and I hope you enjoyed the lunch at the Noosa Surf Club.

SOMERSET DAM RUN.
Our day run to Somerset Dam started about 9.00am from McDonalds at Mount Gravatt with eleven Minis and a Morris 1100. With Dave Perkins taking the lead it was like trying to catch Bob Holden at Mount Panorama all over again. Either my speedo is faulty or Dave’s is, as I spent half the day doing 75mph trying to catch up. (At least we now know that it does go over 50.ED.) The car and I survived the journey to the first rest spot for lunch, at the base of Mt Glorious. Thanks to Tracey York and Dave Perkins and others who prepared the BBQ and did the cooking. We then went for our final run to Somerset Dam at a much slower pace, maybe because Dave ate too much and slowed him down a bit. Unfortunately Bob Ward had to leave us at Ipswich with a slight water leaking problem after a rushed job to turn his fan around the right way the night before. Hope everything is now okay mate. Hope everyone had a good day and I look forward to seeing you on the 21st November for the Brisbane to Kingscliff (NSW) day run to meet some fellow Mini nuts from Northern NSW.
