Presidents Report.
One of the reasons the Mini Owners Club was formed back in March, was that some members of another club wanted to host a Mini 40 Birthday Party. They said it couldn’t be done, no one would be interested, no one would come. On Sunday 12th September 1999 our new club proved them wrong!!
Three hundred and twenty seven Minis and Mini variants was the official count. They came from all over Australia to pay tribute to their favourite car on its 40th birthday. Your club entertained a tremendous alcohol free crowd with Rock-n-Roll dancing, 60’s and 70’s music, sound offs, motorkhanas, go-to-whoa, mini cramming and other family activities. They were all kept feed by a tireless band of workers serving up countless steak burgers, sausage burgers and drinks.
After the grand parade and trophy presentation the committee and their helpers restored the Norwell complex to its pre-party mode as the facility was to be used early the next morning for another corporate day. This event could not have been staged without the members participation and valuable help. I would like to offer a sincere thanks to all who donated their time and support to the Mini 40. I must also thank our many sponsors, without their financial support we couldn’t have hosted this party. Thank you!
I must thank your committee, led by Club Captain, Tony Formosa, for a job well done. The committee worked relentlessly, overcoming numerous difficulties to host the Mini 40. In all committees there will be differences of opinion and ideas, but this committee discussed all of them and arrived at the best solution on the day. This is a committee I am proud to be a part of.
Gary, alias ‘Crash’, and his team of volunteers deserve a big thanks for looking after security and removing all the rubbish with the help of Dave Macgregor’s truck. Also thanks to Venessa Abbot for looking after the children and organising their activities, well done!
There are so many to thank I cannot name them all, however thanks again to you all!
Yours in Minis
Glen Carpenter.
