The Wynumn Spring Parade. OCTOBER 9 1999

starters ( plus a Moke ),were wedged between the Gum Nut fairies and the Belly Dancers as we marshalled at the Wynnum Spring Parade start point to celebrate this annual event and give the Club some exposure on this warm day.
Dave McGregor and “Crash” were the organisers of the event and were pleased with the members’ attendance. A variety of cars attended from Crash’s dual wheel ute to Dave’s trailer combo carrying “medical supplies” and the ubiquitous Moke draped with the Club banner.
Tony Formosa was an early casualty with clutch problems as the Parade got underway at 1pm. Keith Gould’s union jack emblazoned Clubman ( plated FiDO), was chosen to lead and set the stage for the arrival of the Minis, which as far as we were concerned, stole the show.
Keith’s car led the flag waving, tyre screeching bunch into the Parade proper with wonderful response from the assembled crowd. The banner, although at the back of the Moke, told ‘em who we were after passing. Good insurance when laying rubber in Brisbane City Council streets.
The day being quite hot saw Bob Ward’s Cooper ‘S’ disappear left with an overheating engine, never to be seen again, with the rest of the group and the Moke with banner billowing out the back turning right onto the foreshore Esplanade, their pace and engine temperatures governed by the Gum Nut fairies up ahead.
A good day and a good event, but as Dave said, “ we need a smaller banner for vehicle parades like this”. Over to you Glen and Richard!
P.S. Bob Ward promises to put his fan back on the right way for the next one.
