Presidents Report.
Since my last report not a lot has happened in Mini world other than our regular monthly meeting. Once again a barbecue of world standard was cooked at 6.30pm with chicken kababs supplied by Pete which were well received. 50 steak burgers and 30 chicken thingies sold quickly. An improved format meeting took place and from the floor discussion about places members would like to go on day runs. Maleny is on the books for February 2000.
Bathurst weekend saw us finishing a car for one of our members. It has had a chequered history already with the LHS wheel falling off TWICE! First, the sound people didn’t tighten the wheel nuts up properly after fitting a new aerial and off comes the wheel. Then, with repairs done, the owner gives the car the once over and decided to drive over to us to get it checked out fully. But, what he failed to see was the ground down thread and nut of the ball joint from the mishap, result, the wheel hub falls out of lower arm and the wheel is up into the wheel arch again. New ball joint and lower arm and another new aerial and the car is on the road again. Please remember to tighten (42ft lb) wheel nuts when you work on your car.
Bathurst reminded me of my race car, so I checked it over and started it up. It ran, so I sent my entry in for the last race meeting at Lakeside for the year. The car needs its 13:1 race head and LSD fitted along with new tyres. The current ones are three years old and very hard. A Dorian Timer is also required for the lap timing, but at a cost of $4,500 I have borrowed one for the meet. Thanks Ken!
Next month I will begin a series of articles on building a race car. These will include the rules, regulations and where you can race them. I plan to build a replica of Brian Foley’s 1971 car to race in Group Nc. The car can be viewed at anytime at our shop.
The day run to Kingscliff was another great success with a large contingent of 41 Minis. The weather was not the kindest but I understand that you made the best of it. I was unable to make it because of work commitments and hope you all had a great day and a safe return home. If you have any ideas for a day run grab one of the committee and let them know. They will be more than happy to accept your suggestion.
Please give some thought to the nominations for the up coming election at the AGM in February and keep the subscription renewals for 2000 coming in.
Yours in Minis and a Merry Xmas to all,
Yours in Minis
Glen Carpenter.
