Macs Minis Open Day

David McGregor’s view on the day.

The 2nd Mac’s Mini Spares Family Fun Day on the 2nd May was another very successful day for our new club.

About 60 cars entered the Show-n-Shine from 850’s to Cooper’s and every thing in between. The quality of the cars presented was of a high standard, indicating that even on limited budgets people are turning out very good cars. This only goes to show that the Mini is going to be around for a while yet.

Our competitions were contested by male and female and at one stage the women almost beat the blokes, but as we are the stronger sex, we managed to win on the day. David Perkins had a good day taking out a few trophies and awards including the best overall.

The “Go to Whoa” was a highlight with about 8 cars lining up, including a radio controlled version (see pic) of the legend car which almost took out line honours. Graig Allen won in his half car, half speaker box, Leyland 1275 and also took out the “Sound-Off” with the best sound of the day.

The trophies were well received and to all the winners, congratulations, but to the people who did not win on the day, you were all within 10 points of the winners, so pat yourselves on the back and keep up the good standard. The day overall was very successful and doubled in size from last year. Next year – who knows!! To all who attended, thank you, to those who could not make it, don’t miss next year!

Didn’t the V8 hanging out the bonnet look impressive?

Bob Ward’s view on the day.

The rain stayed away but not the crowds. At least 300 enthusiasts attended the event, with the first cars arriving at 8 am, met by an efficient Rory McDonald in his Traffic Control uniform and Porshe!!!! at the barriers for registration. 67 cars were registered for judging with a further 10 arriving just to be part of the fun. The street was wall to wall Minis and a great effort by our members and Mini fans.

The fun started at 9 am with excellent music, car viewing and judging, raffles, and of course, the great BBQ’s manned by the guys at Mac’s Minis. Dave McGregor was our excellent MC, and Gary and Edita our gracious hosts.

The wheel changing was an absolute hoot with a variety of would be Bathurst mechanics tangling with the tyre. Mark Paget’s excuse was that he couldn’t find the holes. The Go to Whoa created the most interest with tyre screeching, rubber laying Minis laying a plume of smoke along Burke St.

A tremendous day all round, and thanks to everyone at Mac’s Minis, the enthusiasts and volunteers. We look forward to the next one.
Bob Ward.
