The Mini Mag

The Presidents Report.

A change in the meeting venue certainly did not detract from the enthusiasm shown by the members. My thanks to Bob Ward and Tony Formosa for their efforts in securing these premises. While thanking people a hearty thanks to Peter Bosanquet for the BBQ at the club meeting. I believe that Clark will ensure future meat supplies.

I was asked during the week if all the Minis at club events needed to be immaculate or restored. The answer was definitely NOT, all Minis and A-series are welcome. This brings me to the day run on Sunday 13th to Moogerah Dam. Thanks to Darryl Osborne for organising the run, Mark Paget, Richard & Hilary Marchant, Jane Carmichael and Darryl for cooking. Our club seems to attract people who have Minis for sale. A local from Mt Alford who came along to look at the car park full of Minis had 4 cars to sell. When we left the dam for the run home a pit stop was made at Mt Alford to view the cars for sale. However Mark Paget and myself were too busy fixing a recurring fault on Bob Ward’s restored (not by us) Cooper S. A fuel pump wire fell off going over one of the cattle grids. I believe Bob has also availed himself to Vigils breakdown service on more than one occasion. I hope helicopters are more reliable!

At the last meeting we asked David Perkins to purchase a BBQ for the club. We will no doubt see it at the next meeting. Mathew Abbott is chasing orange conduit for motorcross poles. Can you help? The new Queensland Raceway at Ipswich held its first meeting on the 20th of this month and Rob Watson will have a report in next months Mini Mag. A report on the RACQ Motoring of Yesteryear will also be in the next edition.

I have included a wiring diagram for headlamp relays. This prevents the highbeam switch from melting and is definitely required for spotlamps. For any wiring of accessories or faults Mark or myself would be happy to advise.

On the drivers side inner guard you can locate the Blue/White wire & Blue/Red wire (Blue with White tracer & Blue with Red tracer). Cut the B/W wire and crimp a push on terminal to each end. One end to No 85 on relay & other end to No 87 on relay. Join both No 86 together with wire and earth under mounting screw. No 30 is fed from a live source and the closest source is the solenoid. One side of the solenoid is the power to the starter motor, the other side is the one you want. Check wiring and try it out. A click should be heard when the headlamps are turned on.

Yours in minis.
Glen Carpenter.
