THE PRESIDENT’S REPORT
July is almost gone and we have already exceeded our expectations for membership. We have 150 members and the new goal is to have 200 for Mini 40. Membership from now until the end of the year is only $15.
Despite previous comments regarding the Minis ability to run in the rain, the very wet RACQ motoring of yesteryear proved this to be false. Not one mini was seen stopped in the rain. A brave contingent of 15 vehicles congregated at Orleigh Park West End. The queue for the food was 100 – 150 metres long, however the wait was worthwhile. After breakfast we proceeded across the Grey Street Bridge along Milton Road to Anzac Park. My race car refused to climb the grassy wet slopes and so remained at the bottom in disgust or disgrace, but the enamel badge supplied by the Armstrong Siddley Club was worth the day .
Our man Clarke Tunstall-Brown supplied the steak and sausages for the BBQ at the last Tuesday night monthly meeting and as any of the 40 participants would agree the food was great. Thanks to Peter, Vanessa and Matthew for doing the cooking and Dave Perkins for bringing along the free chips. More thanks to Gary alias Crash from Mac’s Mini Spares, for the raffle prizes on the night which we will use very shortly.
For people who wish to build a transistor assisted ignition for the Mini, we will have an assembly day very shortly. These will not eliminate points but will extend their life considerably and also increase the dwell. For electronically minded people ask Mark or myself for a faxed copy of the circuit. At the shop we are currently working on programmable ignition kits and will advise what they do and cost in a future issue.
Any information regarding Cooper S’s or GT restoration may be obtained from Mark or myself at the shop or come out and inspect the ones currently being worked on.
