The Club Captian report.
The Mini Owners Club had our first Christmas Party ten months nearly to the day since the club started. With over 160 people attending, it made it the best day since the Mini 40, or was it a continuation of that birthday party?
The day was absolutely fantastic thanks to Clark Tunstall, our club chef, who spent two days plus ordering and preparing the all that beautifully food that we all enjoyed. We will never you Clark, you a truly devoted member and we thank you for all your efforts. I would also like to thank our Treasurer, Richard Marchant, who organised the drinks and the petty cash for the day and worked hard to ensure the refreshments were available. Thanks also to the following members; Tracey York and the kids for packing all the lollies for Santa to give the children. I hope Brandon and Storm didn’t eat too many while packing the bags. Bob and Alex Davis who helped collect the payments for the smorgasbord lunch and Jeremy Moser, Graham & Andrew Williams for the tents. Our lovely raffle ladies Judy, Allison and Lisa and all of Santa’s helpers. It was good to see so many willing to help in the kitchen, especially the guys, - I wonder if Scotty was trying to impress his lovely, now fiance, with his washing up skills?
Dave McGregor did a truly professional job as M.C. for the day, as he always does! Most importantly we have to thank Dave Perkins for his for his role as a somewhat very hot Santa. Also the Nine News Helicopter Crew and John Heselwood who organised the best show on earth. A big thankyou to Martin Roller from Brisbane BMW at Fortitude Valley who generously arranged the loan of the beautiful Flame Red 1999 Mini Cooper. It certainly attracted a lot of interest from all present.
This has been a really great year for the Mini Owners Club. We have had such fun in all of the events that we organised for the 1999 calendar and we now set our goals to beat all of the past events in the year 2000. We all showed good friendly club spirit in all activities and the great team effort by everyone has made this club one to be proud of.
A little history to remember for 1999-
40 plus average members attended each MGM.
35 Minis was the average at every Day Run.
Mini 40 guest Bob Holden, winner of Bathurst in 1966 in a Cooper S is our No. 1 Member.
327 Cars was recorded at the biggest Show-n-Shine in Australian Mini history.
2000 plus people attended the Mini 40.
160 plus members at the first MOC Christmas Party in 1999.
The year 2000 is promising to be bigger and better so they tell me! I would like to invite any member who maybe interested to join the committee to assist in next years activities. It is a lot of work, but also lots of good fun, so come along and get involved.
Have a very happy MINI CHRISTMAS everyone.
Tony Formosa.
