Presidents Report.
What a fantastic turn out for the Mini Owners Club Xmas Party. 170 people with over 50 cars enjoyed truly excellent cuisine supplied by Clark Tunstall at $5 a head. A very special thanks goes to Clarke and his helpers for a job very well done and very well received. Clark now has his own business and can be contacted through the club.

Our own MC, David McGregor, was as usual never short for words and kept everything flowing smoothly. Santa’s presence and presents amused the children, big and small, and his arrival by helicopter (thanks to John Heselwood and Channel Nine News) was a sight to see. Some people will do anything for a chopper ride. BMW / Rover finally after persistent pressure from our terrier Tony Formosa, let him have the keys to the 1998 Rover Cooper. It looks great and the finish is what you would expect for the price. A big thanks for allowing many of us to have a drive.

The past 10 months have been filled with great excitement for me since the formation of the Mini Owners Club. The idea was to meet enthusiastic people who loved Minis and wanted to use them. Friendships have been formed and many cars been rescued. The BBQs at the informal meetings have been excellent as have the very popular day runs. There is always a feeling of guilt when a break-a-way group form another club, however the guilt subsides when the new club completely vindicates the action. Almost 300 members can’t be wrong! Next year will be bigger and better with the committee already planing to expand the outings with some driver training, workshop tours and perhaps an historic rally. The Queens Birthday week-end will be the biggest Mini event on the calendar. Lakeside Raceway I believe!!

I must thank all the committee who have supported me and worked so well together to achieve the events of this year, ie Mini 40, who could forget it!!!? They have been tireless in their efforts to extract the best for a club and it’s members. A special thanks must go to the Mini Mag editor John Heselwood, for his efforts in producing the magazine despite illness. This has been very much appreciated. Our magazine is definitely the best in Australia. Thanks John. Our sponsors must also be thanked, because without them our membership costs would be much higher.

At this time of year, people are attending functions, parties and family get-togethers, so enjoy yourself and drive safely. We look forward to seeing you in the new year.

Merry Xmas & A Happy New Year,

Yours in Minis
Glen Carpenter.
