THE PRESIDENTS REPORT

Activities in the last month saw the club proceed to Queensland Raceway it Willowbank for the Historic races. I don’t like watching race meetings, so I took up the invite and went with Mark for a run to the Gold Coast for a photo shoot for the Gold Coast Bulletin. We were met there by Andrew Williams and Jeromy Moser in their Minis. The photographer and journalist finally appeared and took pictures of all three cars except Marks. The end result was a picture of me sitting in front of my Cooper accompanied by Marks report which took up half of page five.

The report was a promotional feature for the ‘Festival of Elegance” being held on the following week-end at the Southport Broadwater. The Club was represented at this event by a small but brave group who survived rain and 30 knot winds. The new Club banner proved strong enough to survive the conditions and managed to drag Marks tool box around the car park. (Mark can’t even lift his tool box!). Thanks to Bob Ward for arranging the new banner. I would like to thank all who attended and especially the new member with the South African Mini Station Wagon. While we were battling the elements at the Coast our new member, John Stratton, was battling the historic cars at the raceway and managed to knock off the EH Holden on the last lap to win his race, congratulations!

The August meeting saw Dave Perkins bring along the newly purchased BBQ with his special modifications to the legs to make it more portable. We have to readdress the numbers of rolls and meat again as we keep getting more and more turn up. My thanks to the cooks, Peter Bossie, Clarke Tunstall-Brown, Tina and all the others who help with the preparation etc. Clarke informed me that we now have an account for the meat and snags. The Helicopter raffle draw was delayed till Sunday and was drawn at the Willowbank Kart Track. Robyn 1275 LS Walker should now be a popular girl being the holder of the winning ticket.

What were we doing at the Kart Track? Our Vice President had organised a day run to Willowbank via Peak Crossing and Harrisville. Suffice to say he immediately found the fastest kart ( paid the attendant an extra 10 bucks) and had a ball. I should mention John Heselwood who drives extremely well until put under great pressure and he spins at the end of the back straight and the President gives him a touch up.

Membership as we head towards the Mini 40 continues to grow and is now up to 175. This is good news for the committee who are all flat out arranging this extravaganza. Please help out if called upon. Volunteers are welcome. Mark gave a talk on what to expect at the Mini 40 ‘Show n Shine’ judging. I would like members not to get too excited or stressed about it, but just come along and enjoy the day. Your Mini may not be the best, But it is probably better than mine.

At the shop our Japanese Minis have started to arrive. Each is different and some we can’t even date yet. The biggest factor is that they are not rusty! Fuel injected Minis are QUIET and economical and run on unleaded. Ask how we can do one for you. T shirts, coffee mugs and cloth badges arrived at the last meeting and were well received. If can not get to a meeting give me a call and well get what you want sent out to you or get them at the Mini 40.

Yours in Minis,
GLEN CARPENTER.
